I cast my bullets standing up, with my shirt tucked in.  Joe.

I do not cast in the light of the full moon because you can't get enough silver in the alloy to be effective on werewolves

Perhaps you could publish a lunar casting guide including a calandar of the most and least favorable phases for casting lead alloy bullets. What about Venus and Mars?

Do you guys know how stupid you sound talking about casting bullets like it's some sort of hoodoo voodoo, mystical thing.  Moon phase, give me a break!!!

Any one with a lick sense knows moon phase has no bearing what so ever on casting bullets. No none.

It's the moons gravitational pull  that is important, just as it affects the tides, it affects bullet casting. If you cast during the incoming tide the lead will be pulled to a higher level in the mould and the bullet will fill out properly.

The only problem I have is figuring out which tide chart to use. I live in Cut Bank, Montana. The nearby Marias River drains into the Missouri River which drains into the Mississippi River which drains into the Gulf of Mexico near New Orleans about 2000 miles away.  The Pacific Ocean is about 800 miles to the west.

Should I use the tide chart for New Orleans or the tide chart for Seattle, and what is the tide flow offset?

Moon phase, what a bunch of dummies!

Does that mean if one casts of the ebb that the bullets will cast light?

You only have two chances a day. "Where the tide ebbs and flows, twice in twenty four hours."  I'd use the Pacific charts if I lived close enough.
Also, is this affected by the use of a bottom pour pot or a top ladel tech? Inquiring minds (?) need to know.   Grin   Lips Sealed   Tongue

looks pretty obvious to me that a bunch of us need better ventilation systems in our casting areas.  of course that may be a partial explaination of why we are entranced by such an odd-ball (to everyone else) nich of shooting sport.

This is highly refined information and skill. I mean not everyone can create a thing of beauty from a chunk of cold lead!! It takes hours, years of learning how to hold your mouth just right. Tongue

Ventalation? Obviously you haven't been to Montana.  Our weather is so mild that we do all our bullet casting outside, where the gentle prairie breezes push the hazardous lead fumes away.  We have found that in the winter when things cool of a bit is the best time to cast hard lead bullets.

I'm serious.

Here in the DEEP South, you can bet your sweet bippy that we cast in the phase of the moon known as WINTER! And the only breezes we get are those generated by the mosquitoes' wings as they hover close to us, just before they feed!

Once the skeeters have located a warm body and drunk their fill, then they notify their cousins the horseflies and deerflies. Seems like everything down here either bites or stings.

And OH! the joys and comforts of trying to shoot a decent group while wiping sweat with one hand and swatting varmints with the other! Sometimes I wipe the humidity-fog off my scope lenses and use the moisture to soothe the various bites.
Good luck, Joe
