I've made up a few chamber inserts in different calibers, using pieces of .17 cal. rifle barrel, to accept .177 round balls and 209 shotgun primers.  A bit too noisy for the basement, but lots of fun.  I'll probably try it with .22 cal., since I can't get the .177 round balls any longer.

I have used a 22 RF with the CCI CB cap for the purposes you describe.

I have a small challange. A martini cadet with a matchgrade barrel in 222R, A can of Benjamin 22cal. pellets. And a backyard full of tree rats.
I remember somewhere you could drive a pellet with a primer to respectable velocity. I think a pop bottle could contain the noise so the neighbor dosn't get to excited. Think I can breech seat the pellet lubed with Alox and drive it with a case converted to lg.rifle mag primer. Any ideas or suggestions.

Am I the only one that sees this as a wonderful opportunity to acquire something like a shot out Stevens Favorite, and barrel or reline it and chamber it for .22 CB Long?

Of course, I'm not one to pass up an excuse for a new rifle...  Cheesy

PS... dropping a piece of lead shot into the base of the pellet skirt comes to mind to attempt to stop the front of the pellet blowing out using a primer to propel it... No idea if it would work though... Might be a stop-gap measure until you get that .22 CB Long rifle built Cheesy

Isn't the cbLong just a standard 22 L rf as agulia says "sans poudre" ? I'm amazewd though at how much penetration they give at short range (don't ask no questions ya hear, I live in a rented house) If that is the case a standard 22lr chamber should work fine.   Now if you were to cut a liner specifically for regular CBcaps based on the 22 short case it might work best with a special chamber, though one of the early ss 22 rfs that were chamberd for the 22 short gallery shooting should work fine,  I'd think--maybe????

I believe the CB Long does have some powder, albeit mighty little. I believe the MV is ~ 800 fps. I've relined a Ruger No 1 to 22RF specifically to be shot with the CB Longs, using a liner with the slow twist for the Short bullet. I chambered with a match reamer so that presumably it would improve the accuracy with the Short bullet in the CB Long cartridge while still allowing use of a full-power LR cartridge if wanted. No specific reports on accuracy yet.

The CB Long will definitely kill, so don't treat it lightly and BE CAREFUL!
Good luck, Joe

hi ho all,

in the last week or two, i saw on tv or read somewhere about a guy using 22 pellets and a shotgun primer to hunt. a pellet was mentioned that is more solid than a standard pellet. don't remember the brand, but he had no blow outs with the shotgun primer.

will try to remember..

I think the Aguila Colibris are the way to go. I shoot them all the time in the garage or basement with a pellet gun trap, in my Sharps with a Lee Shaver liner or one or my other .22 rifles. almost no noise and reasonably accurate at short range. I did get one that did not clear the barrel once, but it came out easily with a cleaning rod. Joe S

Hi everybody I'm new, found this because I was searching "SHOOTING PELLETS WITH A PRIMER" . From some catalog with scantily clad ladies on the front many years ago I bought some 223 cases that were bored at the primer pocket and o-ringed so you could use case lube and slip 209 shotgun primers in and fire 22 pellets in the 223, this was much fun in my ss nef break action. there was almost no noise and hit with some authority, never blew out a pellet, I think I used crossman premier and some wadcutter. if you want to use the 222 this might work.It did warn against magnum primers. I also enjoy shooting the super colibri with no report from a 20 in. barrel. the cb longs make enough noise to attract attention I think, but a fairly long barrel might make them completely silent, some of the cz and other bolt guns are 22 or 24 in. barrel arent they?
