identifyiing a rolling block

Sirs, I have a rolling block action(a barrel stub is present) that I am looking for help identifying. It is a 32 rimfire and it seems to be a #4 but the top tang is gone. In its place there is a ledge milled on the top/rear of the action. This is undercut to provide a kind of dovetail like arrangement with 2 screw holes drilled and tapped. There are also 2 holes drilled and tapped 1 on either side of the trigger guard. There is no lower guard on this action and the rar is straight. It also has the screws instead of pins for the block and the hammer. This action has the screwed in place barrel and is in great shape. The tang is missing but the condition of the screw holes present indicates they have seen considerable use.  The portion of the barrel remaining still has the standard rear sight mounted. I thank you all in advance for your help..

Might it be a pistol action?

I simply don't know. I was told the pistols and the No.7 target rifle were both built on the No,.2 action. I didn't know that either.. how can we determine if it was a pistol?
