.32-40 brass

I have a .32-40 rifle on order and am in the process of acquiring accessories. I'm having difficulty in finding .32-40 brass. My old standby Buffalo Arms tells me that they are out of stock and can't get any from Winchester.

Does anyone know of another source?

Has anyone tried to form .32-40 brass from .30-30 brass before? That's my default plan. I guess .38-55 brass is difficult to find also.

Thanks for any help.

Bruce

Yes 30-30 will work fine just a tad short on lenght. Run them in a full lenght 32-40 sizer and fire form them i your 32-40 rifle!

Before you give up on finding .32-40 brass, try Graf & Sons who were the first or at least among the first to have Winchester remake it, and Natchez Shooters Supply who also were carrying it a while ago.  I have ordered brass and other things from both of them and recommend them highly.  Oh yeah, you might also try Midway...they advertised it fairly recently.

Have Dave Casey make you up a set of 32-40 everlasting or reduced capacity cases. Its the last time that you will have to buy brass.

I've been told that there is no 32/40 brass available anywhere.--as Jim says just fireform some 30/30 -32speical or 38/55.  leadball

hi ho bruce-p,

if you want to go first class. check e-bay. they usually have the john wayne 'duke' brass. it was a limited run of nickel plated 32-40 ammo. you should be able to get all you need.

if you do make 32-40 out of 30-30, it will be a tad short. but, in all my 32-40's it out shoots 32-40 brass.. i don't know why it does, it just does...

..ttfn..grampa..

PS.. the john wayne brass is stamped 'duke' on the rim..

Mr. Bruce
Try Lock Stock and Barrel out of Valentine, Nebraska.  I've gotten several things from them in the past including hard to find items.  They primarily deal with the big bore high power boys but they carry a lot of other items.  I thing I got my 500 cases of .32-40 a couple of years ago.

There is a gunshop near me where the guy has approx. 10 boxes of original Kleanbore primes brass cases.  If I remember right he wanted $15 per box but might come down some if I picked up the bunch.  I'm heading up there later today and will check on it.

Ten-X ammo has 32/40 and it has the proper head stamp.

I use .32 Spl brass to make my .32-40 brass. Just run them through the sizing dies, and it knocks the shoulder off without stretching the necks out. Makes the brass last longer, and they work great in my guns.

I have used both 30-30 and 32 Special in the past, but the best way to go IMHO is to run new (=shorter) 38-55 in the 32-40 die using Imperial Sizing Wax. 38-55 brass has been fairly plentiful in the recent past and gives you a full length 32-40 case after sizing.

I opted for reforming .30-30 brass.

Looks as though every thing should work out fine.
