I have an MVA tang sight and a Pedersoli, had to have the ladder graduations re-cut by Lee Shaver on the Pedersoli because they were too fine to be practical as issued, (this may have changed recently), at any rate I am equally satisfied with both, you can buy two or three Pedersolis and recut the graduations for the cost of one MVA.  As far as the Hadley eyecup is concerned, it is the single most importand and cost effective upgrade you can make to iron sights. I would not be without one on a target rifle. Joe S

I much prefer Anschutz style sights for ASSRA style matches. The sights are readily available, fairly reasonable in cost, and the click adjustments are most helpful.

I had the prototype of the Parts Unknown Pope sight in my possession for review about two or three years ago.  I thought that it was very well made and it seemed to function well off a rifle, but it was for a Stevens hole spacing and I didn't have a rifle to use it on, so I had to just look and try to imagine how it would work.  If I were in the market for a gallery sight or a 100 yd sight, I wouldn't hesitate to order one of those.  I THINK it would have enough windage to adjust for 200 yds, but I don't think I would try to use it at silhouette ranges.

I remeber seing that sample and your article,  it was impressively done.  I saw an original stevens/pope schuetzen sight on one of the rifles in the case at the ASSRA booth in Milwaukee.  I think you'd have a hard time telling old from new; though I suspect that the new ones would be the beneficaries of modern metallurgy and CNC machining.  I sort of assume that since they were designed by HP for schuetzen they would be more than adequate for 200 yards, and maybe a bit more depending on the front sight and barrell length--but not for longer range work.

I have an original Pope rear sight (less the original base) on my Peabody Martini Kill Deer, and it works well within the limitations of the Schuetzen game of 200 yards.  Not a long range sight nor a particularily easy one to adjust for elevation, but it does hold the elevation adjustments nicely.  Windage adjustments are, again, limited, but if you couple it with a windgauge front sight, shouldn't pose a problem.
