benchrest technique

I have been trying to impove my benchrest technique. I have found that I get pretty good results with my rimfire by minimizing cheek contact on the wood and only touching the trigger with the trigger finger and pressing with the thumb at the rear of the trigger guard. I was a little afraid to try it with the 45-70 due to recoil but I can to it wihout having the scope hit me, and the results on paper are encouraging. However, I am wondering how to maintain consistent eye position without a stock weld.  Can anybody help me out? thanks,Joe S

If my scope is adjusted to minimize parallax, I don't worry about eye position.  I try to set the bags and rifle so the recoil is straight back and repeatable then let nature take its course.  If I have set everything up right, I can let the rifle "free recoil" without even looking through the scope at the moment of ignition.  This works for me, as with all things, YMMV!  Cool

I agree with the green one - if u have the rifle sitting secure in the bags once u have reloaded and repositioned it and are satisfied that the crosshairs r where u want them why do u have to keep looking thru the scope?  sit up straight watch ur wind flags and when the moment is right - touch her off - u have a good day now - rimfire
