Martini breech seater
May 9th, 2006 at 5:52am
Print Post
In the last issue of the Journal there's a picture of a Martini breech seater.
To use it, a modified innards-retaining screw would be needed, to hook the breech seater to.
Anybody out there make modified screws for the 12/15 BSA Martini?
The breech seater?
Thanks;
joe b.

Since the 12/15 is rarely a centerfire, I am not sure what you would use a breech seater on that for. Also, the breech seaters I have seen were for the non Francotte subframe type (pins/screws for assembly were through the outside receiver) and attached to the block pivot pin. Those pins being a custom made affair. A couple of Journals ago was an article on Mr Bassett who I have seen on the line at EG with a breech seating large frame Martini action.

I've converted a couple of 12/15 Martini rifles to centerfire, and have built breech seaters to match.  I drilled and tapped the receiver at the 3:00 position to the barrel threads for an 8-40 Weaver head screw.  A plate slips over the screw head, and comes back about 1.5" to serve as a pivot for a lever.  The lever has a ball-end link on it that pushes a plugged case into the chamber.  The right side wall of the receiver has been cut down in a lazy "s" shape to get more clearance under the scope when the breechblock is in the open position.  Let me know if you would like photos.  Don't know how to post them here, but I would be glad to email them.

Mine is a 30/30 bench gun.
So I do need the new-made screw.
