new from Etna Green/..22Rf next weekend

This weekend a crew of members and "friends of ASSRA"  managed to get completely new target support frames for 50 backers installed at the 200 yard line.  Also the main support timbers for the extension of the firing line were placed; so as soon as the concrete slab is poured work can commence on adding the rest of the benches.  A BIG thankyou to the organizers and workers who pulled the effort together.

Next week end will be the Spring 22rf shoot @ EG  Sure hope to see you there. The weather certainly appears to be better that we had there last Spring----of course that wouldn't take a lot.

heading down tomorrow afternoon,  plan on helping set stuff up and maybe do some 'sperimenting.  Gotta break in that new Mountain Specialites bench rest.   that alone should make me a master shooter, LOL.  Also gonna give a Shaver insert in the 40-65 CPA a try.  I have no idea what ammo will/won't work.  weather forecast looks fine---so far (but I'm taking insulated coveralls just in case).  a bit breezy--but it is Etna Green after all.

It was a NICE weekend at Etna Green. We had about 27 registered shooters. The wind made the shooting challenging but satisfying when things worked. There were some fine scores shot.

weekend went well at EG.  weather was pleasant---a VAST improvement over last Spring's .22 shoot.   We had all 23 of the 100 yard .22 Rf backers in and at times there were shooters waiting for a bench, but it was not at all unmanagable. There are a few who don't use the 100yd targets so we can put them on one end or other and free up the 100 yard backers.
Even though it is nominally only a 2 day match we had a fair number of guys how up early and work on setting up and sighting in on Friday--no formal matches but a lot of shooting.

Yeah it was windy,  but then it was at Etna Green where the schuetzenmeister has the wind trained.  It can be dead calm in the morning then when he says "ready on the right"  the wind flags start fluttering.
I wish he'd start shooting the .22rf regularly again---maybe he'd keep the wind from doing that.
It was really nice that there were maybe half a dozen or 8 guys who had not been at the .22-only matches before and 3 or 4 who had not been to an EG match.  So we now have a few new members.
there were an awful lot of Martinis in action.  I didn't do a count but it looked like a third or more of the shooters had one out at one time or another.

It looked more like two thirds of the .22's there, to me Roll Eyes. There were some nice originals, too. I especially liked Jerry Johnson's Grandfather's Ballard. Built by CC Johnson with a Diller barrel. I got to shoot it and during "force 4" winds (on the Wind Probe) shot five straignt 25's at 100 yards. Wonderful rifle owned by a real gentleman.

Larkin, you were missed Cry   Hope all is as well as can be.  JimB was doing the scoring and working the stuff up, but he had some sort of computer glitch.  I assume he'll post them here sooner or later.  I think the 200yd schoyen was won with a 241, I came in 2nd with a 237----like I said it was windy.  Corky managed to shoot a few nice groups, on the 100yd, I think, but he must have been really timing the wind.

It was one of those days when you began wondering if higher speed ammunition just might not be worth looking at. considering the trade off between less flightime/wind exposure and the quality consistancy of the slower target ammo.
