I agree on the Peabody hammer rifles - awkward and clunky, with the mule's ear sticking out...  but then I'm no great fan of sidehammer rifles (ducking for cover).  And you're right, the Int'l models were not made to please aesthetically, and are more of the type 'beautiful is as beautiful does' .  But some of the rifles based on the small cadet action are positively gorgeous - even some target rifles.  And some people have built sporters on the cadet action that can qualify as magnificent, just look at Bob Snapp's work.
