Paul, We had a guy here for two or three matches that was from Indian Trail, NC. Don't know if you remember him or not. He shot one of these w/o a double set. He had some trouble getting things going, seems that at best it was a 23 ring gun. I built him a breech seater for it and he quit coming after a couple of matches. Russ or someone may remember more about him. I don't remember his name but I do remember the rifle.

If you shop around some you can find origional ones for similar bucks. At GunBrokers there is a Ballard with a $1500 bid now.

It's more fun to shoot real rifles.

That rifle will never sell for only $1500. Not in this lifetime. That is just the opening bid.

I can't speak to schutzen, as I've never shot it.
But I will tell you that for silhouette the Ubeti's can be competitive. I've had one for awhile and shot my way in to AAA with it. I would say that it is to a Meacham or a Ballard high wall what a Pedersoli Sharps is to a Shiloh.
The Uberti will get you started, which is what I used mine for, and will let you be fairly competitive till you can decide wether you want to stay in the game or pursue other hobbies.
If you stay in the game you will upgrade to a better rifle (whoops I meant rifles
) and wether your scores go up will depend on the loose nut behind the butt.
eventually I will rebarrel my Uberti to another calibre, but only because I have enough 40-65's, the actions are very good looking
Maybe someone else can answer if it works for schutzen

Hello all,
I do not have any experience with the particular rifle you are discussing. I do have two of those uberti actions, plain trigger and one converted to sst. I consider them fine actions. I do not know about the barrels but if they don't shoot I wouldn't blame it on the action.
My opinion,

I bought a 30/30 HW that would not shoot a decent group. bore was larger at the muzzel. Uberti replaced it with one that shoots MOA consistantly. Their customer service to me was excellent. They even followed up to see if I was happy. I think they make a good rifle for the money. My 45/70 shoots tight groups with smokeless but am having problems with the black. I am expecting big things from the Cabella's Pedersoli Sharps which I have yet to break in.
