.38-72?

Is anyone shooting a .38-72? Now that Hornady is making .405 brass does anyone have a full-length sizing die who could form some cases for me? My last good case is one I lathe turned and don’t look forward to making another. I shoot with just one case so I don’t need many.

I bet Rocky Mt Cartridge would make one up for you. I use there lathe turned cases for 32/40 & 38/55 and the cost is reasonable.

MP,
If you can wait just a few weeks, I can probably help you out. I'm about to order dies and brass today. I am not shooting this yet, but will.
Sounds like you are breech seating this thing? Heck of a cartridge for that!
I'd be interested to hear about your bullet, your velocity, and accuracy with this cartridge.

Brent,
Thanks for the offer, I’m in no rush I have had the rifle for over fifteen years but always seem to be shooting something else. Thought if I had some extra cases I might try black for fun. The rifle is a Niedner-Borchardt-Pope breechloader, I have two moulds for it, a Niedner nose pour 318gr and a Wills nose pour 285 both shoot very consistent MOA at 100 yards I have not used this rifle at 200 yet. My load is 18.5gr. 4759, bullet seated 1/16” front case with a .060 cork wad in mouth of case.

smokinjoe,
I’ll check with Buffalo, the last time I did the 38-72 brass was made by Bertram.

Michael, I have dies and hornady cases. Drop me an email at ssdave at rushmore dot com (add @ and .) and I can send you a sample to see if it works for you. I can form a bunch for you if it will work. See it as payback for past kindnesses, if you will.

MP,
My dies on on the way, so if you want to go that route, let me know. It's only a moment to do a handful or two.
I'm buying Hornady 405 brass for parent cases.

MP, these are new cases. Not the Bertram-formed ones.
