If any of you are shopping for a new benchrest for your christmas present----you might want to hold off ordering one untill you get the next Journal. The Frogster has a product review of one that seems to be practically designed for our single shots.
I saw it on one of the benches at the fall 22 shoot at EG. I was thinking/looking for a replacement for my caldwell so I called the guy who make them as soon as I got home, literally, and ordered one. I had it shipped to Frog to look it over with a product review in mind---now I just have to get it back from him. Some frogs are kind of sticky donjaknow
.
You know how nowdays product review writers just seem to have to find some fault, to prove they are not "shills" for the product; Well on this one it looks like Froggie had to "strain at gnats" to find one---but thats natural for a frog.
It may not make me a better shot in and of itself----but at least I'll look like I know what I'm doing now.

DWS, I assume from the posting above that the article made it and was readable...how about the pictures? Is all well in Editorland? BTW, I will be sending you some suggestions for some of the best "Golden Oldies" from the far distant ASSRA News issues that our current (and often newer) readers will find most useful.

the benchrest review article will appear in the NEXT issue you get, we are really trying to jam them together as I get material trying to catch up from the problems in 2004.

sadly
yes.
We are still running slow. I've been trying to catch up ever since I took on this responsibility. I've narrowed the gap some , we lost almost 6 months ---strictly calendar wise between JC's last issue and my 1st one. I have theSept/Oct issue on my desk and hope to get it off to the printer when I get back home this weekend. Then I'll be working get the NOV/Dec "double (headache) issue" right on its heels.
Unfortunately trying to get enough quality content in the hopper has been difficult. so we are working on an issue to issue basis rather than having articles stacked up and waiting. We have wasted a coupe of good opportunities and probably pi$$ed of a coupe of prospective writers in the process because of communiation errors and lost emails.

Quite frankly, I think you are doing one bang-up job. The Journal is just great. Who cares if the issues are a little behind right now. That is effectively being corrected. I for one very much appreciate the very obvious hard work you and everyone involved is putting into it.
THANK YOU!!

Hello All,
I agree! Great job with the journal. Now back to the rest!
Who did you order the rest from? Do you have name and number? I was just looking at the Caldwell rest. Their best one! That looked pretty nice. Do you have any pros or cons on them? I did see a rest on the cover. I think it was made of Bronze? If I recall? I think HST(Glenn)made it. That one is a KILLER!!! Can I get a picture of that in poster size??
Thanks
Jesse

Jesse,
The new rest mentioned by DWS is made by
Scott Hamilton
T/A Mountain Specialties
8206 Dunlap Cr. Rd
Covington, VA 24426
Phone (540) 962-9545
and sells for around $350. If you contact him, please let him know that you heard of his product via this forum and from DW and myself. I'd like him to know we are indeed doing something with the one he sent (sold) DW and that the ASSRA folk are a good potential market. I will say without fear of contradiction that this rest is absolutely top drawer in all respects and the only thing I really found wrong with the one I reviewed is that it isn't mine and has to go to DW!
This price is about twice that of the top-of-the-line Caldwell rest, but having shot off both of them I feel it is worth it. Let me put it this way...if these were powder measures, the Caldwell would be a Lyman 55 and the Mtn Specialties would be a Harrell Schuetzen model. In fact, if you want a good deal on the Caldwell that I bought and reviewed a couple of issues of the Journal ago, it can be had reasonably, 'cause I want one from Hamilton.

Nonsense! I say we lynch the guy! Come on men, grab your pitchforks and torches and let's storm the castle!

but could we wait till spring to storm the castle? i hear it's awful cold in mich. rite now. lynching and tourching is allways better in warm weather..

I ordered a left handed Fudd top for my Sinclair base last week - hope to have it in bout 30 days - from what I saw of Bill Thompsons at the fall 22 match I know that I will not be disappointed. Scott is a real gentleman - he sends you the rest with an invoice - if the rest is what you were expecting send money if not send the rest back. The shooting game needs more people who stand behind their product like this.
respectfully,
the rimfre
