  I am assuming you are going to be shooting BP, as any cleaning jag will do for cleaning a gun after shooting smokeless. 

All the guys locally use the kind of jags that aren't slotted. Can't speak for BA's jags as I make my own, but boughten ones usually have to be "adjusted" a bit to work right.

  If you call BA on the phone I'm sure they'll recommend a size you can work with, and you might get lucky enuf you don't have to fool with them.

  A lathe or drill press is needed to turn them down with a file till you can push a reasonably tight patch thru from the sitting or prone position depending on your sport., But, you don't want them so tight that you have to pound on the rod to get it to go. This diam. is going to vary a bit depending on the patches you use for the job. So be sure you know what you'll be using before you start adjusting the jag. Trial and error will give you the right diam. Start out with a diam. that will work ok when you clean your gun. When shooting BP tho you'll have to make it slightly smaller.

  I will be using BP only in the rifles. I do have a drill press and files. I didn't think about fitting them to the bore. If it didn't fit. I would find a different pacth to clean with. It sound like I should a loose fitting jag/patch combo? Is that because of the fowling? Wouldn't that leave some of the fowling still in there? I would think that you run the patch to clean the bore?

  Bob's right. You'll find the jag you use for BP will have to be slightly smaller than one you'd normally use for cleaning a smokeless gun. The fouling makes it very difficult to even get a "smokeless" jag started and the further down the barrel you push it the worse it gets. I end up having two jags for each gun, as I feel the BP jag is to loose for cleaning a gun after shooting smokeless.

  But, by smaller, I'm talking maybe .005" or so. It will depend mostly on the patches you want to use. I buy heavy wgt. flannel from Walmart at a cost of $12.15 for 5 yds. and then cut my own as you can use up a LOT of patches in a day's shooting. If you buy the jag's Bob suggests try them out and see how they work for you, and then, if necessary, only take a very little off at a time till you're happy. It's not super critical!

  The main idea with wiping out a barrel is not to get it as clean as you want it to be after you're done shooting. What you are looking for is a method of cleaning that will leave your bore in the same condition for the next shot as it was for the last. You will have to play with your routine a bit to get what your gun likes. Most guns seem to shoot well with what Bob uses. Two wets and a dry. But, my Schoyen-Ballard in .32/40 likes one wet and one dry. Yours might like something altogether different.

  Next to your load your wiping procedure is the most important aspect of good accuracy.
