	greetings and welcome 51, that mite be kind of tricky. as there were a lot of diff 8.15x46's. some are similar to a 32-40 case and others are not. my german rifle for example, is marked 8.15x46 but it takes a ull length 30-40 krag case blown out to 323. any how, slug your bbl if it's a winchester it shod be around 323 and i am assumeing you have brass for it. if so, start with around 12grs of 4227 and a bullet of about 193 grs. (thats a semi standard weight.) that should be a semi accurate starting load.. good luck and ..ttfn..grampa..

	51, I'll go along with what XX says. His German rifle has a .323" bore whereas mine has, what I assume is the standard .317" bore and uses a standard 8.15 case. If yours runs like mine and you have a 180 gr. bullet...... mines the NEI stop ring..... then my best load is 13.6 grs. of 4227 and 11.5 grs. of AA#9. SPG lube and Rem. 2 1/2 primers. Alloy is 1-30. With the factory iron sights it will shoot between 1" and 1 1/4" at 100 yds. off the bench. Bores slightly rough and being strictly an offhand rifle this is the best I've been able to achieve so far. 	My Aydt is marked, "8.15x46 NORM" and it shoots the standard shorter version, and has a .319" bore. I shoot a 170 grain hard cast, with 13 grs of 4227. In my Aydt, this caliber is one of the finest shooting single shots I own. It will shoot right with my .38-55 Schoyen Ballard. I have an original box of RWS ammo marked, "8,15x46R" and they match the cerrosafe chamber cast I did for my gun.

	8.15 x 46 R rifles are a varied lot. My Aydt has a .316 bore and seems to like the commercial stop ring as sold by Buffalo Arms. I started with 13 grains of 4227. The Aydt happily uses cut-back .30-30 cases with no further modification. My Martini has a .308 bore and .314 groove and seems to like Lyman 311403 breech seated in front of 12 grains of SR-4759, but the Martini demands real cases or a lot of lathe work on the .30-30 rims. 8.15s are not limited to falling block types. A guy brings a strange bolt action single shot that looks like a cross between a shrunken version of an 1871 Mauser and an el cheapo Flobert to the club range. No one has been able to identify it to date, but it shoots OK. Another chap has a very nice Mauser Kar98K. It looks for all the world like a German army rifle, with the good wood & bright blue of the civilian version. But the action is not inletted for a magazine. Instead, it just has a tray to place the fixed 8.15 x 46 R cartridges, one at a time. The sights look a lot like those on a military rifle and it shoots like one.

	Sounds like it's time for a chamber cast & to slug the bore?.... I was always labouring under the impression that th 8.15X46 was 'standardized' cartridge, but I guess not.

	greetings ray, maybe the 8.15 is now a sami spec cartridge. but at the turn of the century and before. the european master smiths made their guns from scratch and from start to finish. and being unique, they each had their own idea what a 4.16 cartridge should be. ergo, my switch bbl has a big chamber and bore. ..ttfn..grampa..
