I have a low wall 32rf with a bad bore i'd like to have reworked
to a centerfire.
Can anyone recommend someone to do firing pin conversion?

I would contact Glenn Fewless or Steve Durren. Either of them will do a great job for you.

Mr. hdj2520:

While the conversion certainly can be made, you might try to find someone with a CF block that they would be willing to trade.  You might have to sweeten the pot a little, but it would likely be considerable cheaper than the conversion.

Mr hdj2520,
Since my learned colleague Mr hst is snowed under with (hopefully paying) projects at the moment, I'll address your question.

The 32RF block CAN be converted to CF, but it's not as easy as it might look. The firing pin angle in the block is different from either the CF or the 22RF ones, and requires some creative machining for an offset pin nose. Also the foot of the firing pin retractor leg is wider front-to-back than the usual and sometimes must be specially dimensioned in order for it to retract properly. I have done this conversion before with good success, but it's more complicated and labor-intensive than the norm.

Please e-mail me if you're interested in me converting it or trading for a CF-type block, treeblood1 @ aol. com (lose the spaces). I can possibly help with other aspects of your conversion as well, I really like getting these old rifles shooting again.
Good luck, Joe

The Estimable Mr. Steele:

I certainly hope they are paying.... <g>

How is every little thing down in the warm and sunny south? I hope that shop of yours is air conditioned!

You would not happen to have a couple of Laudensack levers and butt plates in your archives, would you?

The Admirable Mr hst,
Good to hear from you, I wuz just thinkin' 'bout e-mailing you to check up on your behavior these days. I figure a wild-n-crazy guy like you probably needs regular supervision to keep you from completely disrupting the neighborhood.

Sorry, I don't have any Laudensack parts at all, more's the pity. The buttplate is a little tight on my big fat arm but the lever is the only Win lever that's at all comfortable for me to shoot. Guess I'll hafta start looking for one soon.

Yes, you can bet your sweet bippy (as Johnny Carson used to say) that my shop IS air-conditioned, and I've got a big fan in it too. No climate control effort is too great when the temperature is only exceeded by the humidity!

Every year, funnily enough at about this very time of year, I always wonder what this fat boy is doing still living down here in SWEATLAND! Oh well, at least it gives me a good excuse for staying inside in the shop.

Have been developing a conversion to adapt some aftermarket muzzleloader DSTs to the walls, will give you a report soon. The triggers themselves are not a big problem to fit, but a design for a more compact improved kicker spring is causing me difficulties at the moment.
All my best to you & yours, hope you had a good holiday, Joe

The Laudensack lever and buttplate can be bought from Frontier Armory and Wes Stanley.  They are Storie castings.  You saw them on my Hiwall when you had it.  Wes advertises on Ebay and has the buttplates in stock for $40.  I am not sure if he has the lever in stock as I bought the last one he had 6 months ago and he was unsure when a new run of castings was to be made.  Here is the web address:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
His direct email is:
Frontier_Armory@bronline.com
Hope this helps you

The Distinguished Mr. Steele:

Ya' know, if we keep this up I am going to have to get a thesaurus.

I am most interested in your trigger spearmints. I have some of my own that I need to get to. In my spare time. In the comfort of my own home. No experience necessary...

I will write later and we can disgust some of this stuff.

I will check into the availability of the Laudensack parts (Thank you  Mr. Stevens) and let you know what I come up with. I am also in need of a set of CCSTs.  I need to build a baby brother for my Silhouette riflle.

hdj2520, you are most fortunate to have aroused the interest of not one but two such artisans as JD Steele and HST.  You now can proceed secure in the knowledge that you will have the experience backing you to get you through any rough spots you encounter...also, they are both interesting and fun to work with.  A possibility they didn't mention is to bush the block normally then make a new link that raises it slightly to compensate for the odd placement of the .32 fp.  This brings the top edge of the block a bit above the frame, but many are worn there anyway and a bit of dressing down makes all look about right...I did this with a .32 rf low-wall and rechambered it to get a dandy little .32 Mag,  I wish I had kept that one!    Cry

HST, are you sure you two don't need an ALLOSAURUS instead of a thesaurus to eat through some of your verbiage?  Roll Eyes  I'll be back in touch with you as soon as I'm back from all this gallivanting about (see, I can talk hi-falutin' too!) so we can start tracking down pieces parts for that new project we are embarking upon.

JD S, I till haven't installed that prototype set of DST's you adapted, but they sure work sweet on the bench!  As to the Laudensack levers, I still hope that Shelton will someday make another run of those Walker style levers for the high-wall as they have the same general configuration and I seem to fit into my example, at least, as well or better than the L'sack.  BTW, you think YOU are sweating, try Nassau in July!  Shocked

Nassua in July?  How about NW Ohio.
The 26th we had our local silly wett shoot, and it was ok in the morning but by noon we were at 95, it got up to 100 in the shade by 2ish.
Glad the dew point was only 65 degrees........ humid a bit.

Froggie, that set of DSTs (that you gave me & then I gave you back installed in a tang) is mighty rough-looking, I only did that conversion to see how it would work. Needs a little welding & cleanup on the tang where I cut too much, I was just lucky to have an extra tang to use with them.

Those triggers you gave me were the inspiration for the current adaptation effort. They were the shorter (top-to-bottom) version of the triggers, I ordered the longer version from Dixie and have fit them to an unfinished wall DST tang casting. Mr hst has graciously done his machining thing on the casting and it only awaits the fabrication of a suitable kicker spring and of course a custom long-tailed sear similar to the one I gave you with the triggers. The original long kicker spring design is OK but I would like to develop a really short one that would fit into the original woodwork without having to relieve the wood under the tang machine screw. We'll see.

AND I don't wanta hear any whining about how you're just SO HOT and suffering down in the sunny islands! At least you've got a breeze & an ocean, all we've got around here is perfectly still air, 97% humidity and a water hose!
Hope you have a good time, best regards, Joe

For Laudensack lovers ---  I spoke to Rodney recently And, he told me he had levers at the foundry. I would think they should be here shortly.   Ken
