	Hello Guys Could you please help me out, I've been offered a Ruger No.3 that has had the stock "butchered". It's in pretty good shape mechanically, with nothing more than worn blueing in a few places. The current chamber is 22K Hornet, not something that interests me, so I'm attracted by its value as an action to be rebarrelled. The offer I have been made is equivalent to US$300 Any views on how realistic this is compared with what can be obtained in the good ol' USA. Thanks - Foster

	That sounds like a bargain to me. The No. 3 is a fine strong action and will make the basis of a dandy custom rifle. Greg

	Thanks for the advice folks, I'll get moving on this one. Ken - you help out so many other folks I'll try an get the barrel to you for the shipping cost. Don't hold your breath though, the rifle is in Australia, I'm in New Zealand and with you in the States it'll take a bit of "putting together" . 	Ahhh well Tent man, didn't think about you being out of the U.S.A. Better just forget it but, many thanks for your generousity ! I have a #3 action being stocked by Greg Pennell (First Shirt) as a bench rifle --- they will make a fine action/rifle. Brownells has two set triggers for the #3 action if you want a better trigger. Ken

	Hmmmm . . . nothing is impossible, we'll wait and see what gives . . Meanwhile I'd love to see and/or hear about (or be pointed to) some examples of modifications or custom rifles based on the No 3 action (or no 1 for that matter). How about the story of your rifle Ken, or an update from Wesg on his No.3 work . . . cheers - Foster

	Tentman, one of the sweetest rifles out there recently based on the #3 action is the one Steve (buchsenmacher) Durren built for MI-Shooter. If you ask real nice, maybe Steve will post a picture or two for you to get some ideas. Meanwhile, anything that can be done with the #1 can also be done with the #3, except where a tight pistol grip is concerned. If you want a tight PG stock, you will have to alter the lever somewhat to give proper clearance and working room, but that just means that you get to do a special lever! HTH, Froggie

	If I can ever figure out how to post photos on here, I just finished a No. 3 with a pistol grip and loop lever. Shot it this last weekend at Eau Claire, WI, at the ISSA Regionals...shall we say that the rifle and I are just starting to know each other's peculiarities? Ken, the triggers at Brownells are the Kepplinger set trigger and an adjustable one that pretty well duplicates the original No. 1 trigger's adjustment points...but it's not a set trigger. Also, Ken, contact me privately, I may have a barrel for you. David

	$300 sounds like a good deal to me too. I think the cheapest one I found was 375, and that was several years ago. Mine is resting comfortably next to my keyboard. I figure I should get a couple other projects out of the way first. Almost ordered a barrel for it the other day, and then decided to wait a while on that too. I've got a line on a barrel mount scope that I may use with this, and the guy said he'd make a decision whether to sell it or not next month. I'm thinking about making the bases integral with the barrel and would like to have it in hand to see if that's practical or not. Not doing that would allow me to use a standard diameter blank rather than spending extra for a larger one.

	I have a Ruger #3 in 30/40 Krag (in very good condition) and was just wondering what everyone thought mine might be worth? I bought it in 1976 for a rainy day hunting rifle, but never used it until last when I got a deer with it. Tim K

	TimK, I don't know what the rifle will bring, but I would be interested in that particular model and caliber as I have hunted a bit with a sporterized Krag in the past. How about dropping me a PM when you get a handle on asking price, please? Regards, Charlie the Frog

	Charlie, I went on gunsamerica.com and they had a #3 in 30/40K, in poorer condition than mine and they are asking $850! I bought the gun because it was cheaper than a #1. I only used it to get the deer last year because my son-in-law's 6mm PPC AR was having feeding problems, so I gave him my 243 Ruger 77 (tang safety vintage). I had loaded the 30/40 up with some maximum velocity 180g bullets for Russian boar hunting (again as my backup gun) and the bullet went in one side, hit a rib, took out a 2" hole through the lungs and top of the heart, took out the opposite leg bone and the bullet just kept going. Wow, way to much power! I've been preparing to load up some nice soft lead bullets, at nice slow velocities, for this coming fall, if I don't use my new 38-55 (vintage 1897) Win Model 1894. Tim K
