I recently bought a Savage Model 219 singleshot rifle in .30-30 Win. It's a break action similar to the NEF, but with an  enclosed hammer, and an automatic safety, similar to a shotgun. It goes to safe when you open the action. It shoots a 3"-4" group with factory 170 gr. Remington ammo, which is about all I can do with buckhorn sights anymore. Does anyone have any experience with this rifle? How does it compare strength-wise to the Model 94 Winchester? 
I would like to work up loads for 165-180 gr. spitzers with it, since I don't have to worry about bullet shape for a magazine. I haven't found any data on loading spitzers in the .30-30. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I have had several of these over the  years.  The advantage is to be able to shoot other than flat tip bullets.  My best accuracy was with 130 gr bullets.  These shot under an inch at 100 yds and had plenty of power for white tail deer. I relined another to 25 caliber and chambered it to 25-35 with good results.  Added scopes as well.  Nice light rifle.

I'm currently working on a load using an NEI .300" paper-patch bullet that weighs 195 grs. when cast in 40-1 alloy. I'm trying both Hodgdon's Triple 7, and IMR-3031. The rifle is as accurate as I can hold it at 100 yds.
