	One of the perks of membership in ASSRA is the availability of one of the great gun research repositories in the world! Our archives are so good that even researchers from other countries as well as our own local folks have taken the opportunity to use them. If you have a particularly thorny question about a rifle (or even some other firearm related question) of the Civil War to World War I period, contact our archivist (address in the Journal) and see what good stuff we have. Also, if you own any old and unusual gun books, catalogs, etc, the archives will be happy to take your tax deductible donation to make sure the information remains available to all interested members. 	Froggie, Altho not specifically SS cartridge gun oriented (about a 1/3rd to half) I have spent the last several years, off and on, transcribing the Warner-Lowe papers over onto a CD. Finished up a coupla months ago. Nothing professional, but it's all there! Lately I've been mulling over whether I should send a copy into Rudi to put into the archives. Not sure whether there is enuf interest, but would like to get a copy somewhere where they wouldn't be lost. I worked off a copy of a copy, of a copy, if you get my drift. As I understand it no one is really sure where the originals are, and there are only about 7 or 8 copies in existance, so would hate to see them disappear altogether as there is a lot of information you won't see anywhere else. What do you think? PETE

	In a word...YES! That is the very kind of thing that we are trying to safeguard and preserve while making the information available to research for the forseeable future. Having the data transcribed to one or a few CDs is almost as good as having the original, because even though you don't have the original handwriting, etc, you DO have the information in a format that can be easily searched and disseminated. So unless Rudi has the originals (or likely even if he has the originals) in the archives already, I'm sure he would be delighted to have this information on disc. Who else has treasures to share? I found some old Lucian Cary magazines/special booklets that will be headed that way. 8) Froggie

	Froggie, Ok. Will email Rudi and see what he says. There is only one CD. Amazing that you can get 1800 pages onto a CD and only fill it up about 1/3rd! What I'd like to see on CD is The Rifle, Shooting & Fishing, and Arms and the Man. That would cover the full development from early cartridge match rifles to the modern era. That way you could search for things that aren't mentioned in the indexes. S&F has a 3 vol. index but is no where near complete enuf. Just to much info and I'm always wanting to find something I recall seeing but don't know where it is and can't find it in the index. PETE

	MP, Amen on Arms & the Man! If there is anything wrong with S&F as far as SS's goes, it stops just when some of the famous writers we've all heard about began to write. I've heard that there was some talk of reprinting Arms but it would cost more than even S&F, and S&F wasn't/isn't exactly a best seller. I think the price for it is 5K now. I guess we'll just have to haunt the gun shows for originals. PETE

	MP, Sounds like a cool idea! Only I don't have any copies yet. See stacks of AR's at the shows but have yet to see an AATM. But if you have duplicates you wouldn't mind getting rid of let me know. PETE
