I'm looking at a BSA Martini 22....don't know much about 'em but this seems in decent shape @ $499.... globe front sight,

UPDATE: went to look at it again....and just had to make a trade....

28" barrel, rear sight is original BSA peep sight, hood front sightw w/insert, has a take down screw at front of receiver to remove trigger group for breech end cleaning....an under barrel sling mount, and a forearm mounted sling stud....

marked '220' on left of rear barrel, and 22LF on right....all looks like factory stamping...

proof marks of "BP  LV  and LR" with various graphic stamps above....  has the long lever and good clean wood, blueing is 90++ with just a faint hint of a few little speckles on it & over rt side of receiver...doesn't look reblued...all lettering & marks are sharp...  if I can figure out how to post photos I will do so if anyone is interested...

My regular 'smith saw it and said he thinks it was a step below the international version, a BSA club match model gun ...

I'm pretty excited about it, I've always like the Martini actions....and here I am....

  I'm no Martini expert but do own one of the MK series. The real experts on this gun will need more info on what you have in order to say whether the price is reasonable. The MK series would be worth that price and upwards of $600. But there are series that would be worth slightly less.

  The "Williams style" rear sight could be anything from a Williams sight, which might be on cheaper models up to a regular Parker-Hale sight. Same goes for the front sight.

  More info is needed and, if possible, a picture posted here, or somewhere where it can be looked at.

Check out the latest issue of the Journal. The article I wrote may be of some help. If it is a straight stock, it sounds like a Model 12. The serial number should not have a letter prefix, only numbers. Model 12's and earlier had a sling eye on the bottom of the barrel. The rear sight, is it a folding peep or is it rigid? Do all five of the serial numbers match? The barrel, front of the reciever, trigger sub frame, breech block and the extractor are all numbered. Welcome to Martiniland!

The Single Shot Rifle Journal published by the ASSRA is the one I refer to. 

Serial Numbers are hard to pinpoint to year of manufacture as the records are almost non existant. Based on John Knibbs book, "BSA, The Golden Century", your serial number places the manufacture date in the late 1930's to early 1940's. This site has date code references for the proof marking which may or may not close my estimate as they may be difficult to find and/or read. The "barrel band" sling swivel ahead of the forestock puzzles me a bit though. Most sling swivels were soldered on without a "band".

Your rear sight should be marked as to the exact model on the left side of the site. Usually a Parker-Hale PH 7 or 7A. If the aperature disk is of a "Hadley" style, it would be a BSA 8A disk. If the aperature disk is internal, it is one of the Parker-Hale aperatures. All correct for this rifle.
