I'm new to the site; I purchased 4 lbs of 2f last year from
Clarksville Gun and Rod - they show up for the annual BP
Rendevous up at Ben Avery range in Feburary.
I tried it in the 40/70 SBN - ; .45-100 2.6".
In the 40/70 I noticed a velocity increase over Goex - but as
I did not compress the powder, the increase was only about
50 fps. The powder seemed clean - very little 'fines' and
burned a little cleaner than Goex, Accuracy was not on par
with Swiss 1.5. Normal 2" groups went to 4".
In the 45/100 I dropped in 96gr with a 565 gr PP bullet... I did
not compress it, but the groups again doubled in size from normal . The cost was in -between Goex and Swiss, so it
may be useful to some shooters who need to boost their load
velocity; but if you don't compress it, you may not see groups
that are respectable. I don't like compression (another variable
that can be eliminated), so I stay with Swiss.
I gave my shooting partner a can to try in his H&R 38/55 - he
loaded it the same as he loads Goex; .270 compression - with
the .030 wad and 375248 cast at 20:1. This resulted in a 4"
grout at 200yds from a rest. The bullets had been dipped in
melted lube after loading, and he performed no cleaning or
blow tube between shots - a total of 15rds fired.
So, in summary, it appears to require compression and may be
better suited in straight cases; not bottlenecks...
