Charlie Dell says  " The thumb-rest on a German rifle would be a Dammenkatzl  in that language."    leadball

Not to be argumentative, but I think it is probably more likely something like "Daumenkanzl", which loosely translated means something like "thumb podium".
"Dammenkatzl" means "lady kitten"; you be the judge.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Whatever it's called, I sure like the one on my Aydt! The stock on my gun looks strange, even compared to my other schuetzen rifles, but it sure fits my face and shoulder well. Must be that German blood in me! Wink

I like them too. Too bad everything is on the wrong side on most of the ones I've seen Undecided

Most offhand shooters will comment that a German Schuetzen rifle feels good to them whatever their size or stature.  leadball

Hello Leadball,
I am new to the site and hope I am not off base. I read of your scheutzen with great interest as I recently got one. I know little or nothing about them and am anxious to learn more. The one I have is German, Swiss, Austrian (?) and is a muzzle loader of about 32 caliber. It is wonderfully engraved, dated (1878) and has the name of " H. Jung Wernigerode" on the top flat in gold, or brass. The rifle has all of the original sights and is in first class shooting condition. I have every intention of shooting the rifle and will probably take it to Friendship in the Spring. I have not been able to find anything on this maker or where he might have worked and would like to get any info that is available. I do have pics of the rifle and would be glad to try to send them. Anything you, or anyone else, can provide will be appreciated.
