L.L. Hepburn Action question

I received this message in my mailbox, maybe someone can help them.

Quote:
Hi,  In reference to your article about L. L. Hepburn, we have a lever action 44-40 that has no markings, no serial number all it has on it is L. L. Hepburn.  Any ideas of what it may be worth?  It appears to be a one of a kind from all I can find out.  Any help would be greatly appreicated.  thanks, Don...

If it's the same rifle, (which it sounds like it is) it was thoroughly covered to the owner at Marlin Firearms Collectors Assn. web site, and also at Marlinowners web site.
The gun looked to be a possible prototype of the model 1889, but with no markings on it, other than L.L. Hepburn. The owner was told that a gun of this "possible" provenance to Hepburn could not be valued without an inspection by a qualified dealer or collector.
Hope this helps.

After examing the pictures of the name stamp I have determined that it is a true one piece stamp. I believe it must have been the same stamp Louis used to stamp his name under the bbl's of Hepburn rifles he made. FWIW,   Ken

This may not be the same rifle then. The pictures that were emailed to me showed a rollstamp on the left center of the receiver, and the letters were definitely not in an even line. They appeared to be individually stamped.
I'd like to see these pictures if possible Ken.

Sorry Vall, I have already deleted them. The stamp appeared to be a one piece stamp and left a clear image.  Ken
