I`m looking for a high-wall for hunting and some target shooting.  for under 1,500. I`d like it to go to full cock on opening it like the originals. I would like a target grade barrel. And nice wood.

Mr. Leadlum:

You might want to take a look at the rifle that Mr. Mooseless has offered on the For Sale/Trade section of this forum, if he still has it. I have seen this rifle and as I recall it about fits your description spot on.

Thanks Glenn; I did take a look at that one, the only thing I didn`t care for was the caliber. I`m hoping for a mid-bore. 30-30 or 38-55. I have a 45-70 lever and it is fun; but it is ALOT of gun. It`s MY big medicine. I would like to start hunting deer with a single shot. The "old school" way. I would be casting for it, and reloading my own. But I am still undecided.  I might go for a 45-70 high-wall.  Ray

Ray:

Mr. Mooseless' rifle is chambered in .40-65. It is considerably kinder and gentler than a .45-70.

yeah I know; but I`m all set up for 45-70. I will have to get all new molds and brass. But I`m thinking about it. I would have to do the same if I went for the 38-55.

Leadlum,

You might think about rebarreling, that's what I did not difficult to have done there are several on this forum that can help out with a project such as this.
