Can anyone give me some info on where to get some 32/40 cases made with small rifle primer pockets?

Bob, Take a look at rocky mountain cartridge! Here is the URL  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); Have to say that all the brass I have purchased from RMC has been exceptional!!!

The 30-American case has a small primer pocket, it can be formed into the 32/40 Ballard.   leadball

Leadball, I'm not familiar with that case,  could it also be used for 38.55?  I assume that the idea is that the small primer would allow for a less disruptive ignition flash//DWS

Is the .30 American case still in production? I thought it was long gone. If not, I should like to acquire some.

DWS8130--DonH:
Federal Cartridge made quite a large run of the 30 American back in the late 70's for the benchrest shooters.  I know of no place they can be bought. An old wildcatter might have some.
I'm sure they could be blown-out to 38/55 Ballard.   leadball

I know that this won't convince anyone, but. Years ago I bought a bunch of 38/55 cartridges with small primer pockets. Knowing that small primers would be way superior to Rem 2 1/2's, I tested them in 38/55, 30/30 and 32/40 after (easily) forming cases. When I moved to FL I gave them all to Clayton Prario, they never made any measurable difference. I know this won't convince anyone, but.

Joe, I believe you without question. Several writers have reached this conclusion over the years but the results seem to vary with the cartridge case capacity and temperature. Apparently temps around freezing will result in hangfires and misfires with the larger cases using SR primers, while the accuracy differences were not readily apparent for the most part when ignition was apparently reliable.

Some of these results were obtained with factory cases in both sizes (LR & SR) while others used cases with tiny sleeves in the primer pockets. This made the pockets a little deep for the SR primers & I don't remember what, if anything, was done to correct this. Wish I could say where I read this, but CRS has a firm grip these days.
FWIW & ttfn, Joe
