Weighing Cases?

Is weighing your case before starting to load important?

I recently decided to switch to Winchester Cases and after enlarging the primer pockets and deburring the holes I weighed each case.   Of the 150 cases 80 turned out to be 162 grains.  62 cases are 161 grains.   Three were only 160 and 5 were 163 grains.

I'm thinking of mixing the 161 and 162 grain cases together.  Is that good enough or should I separate them.  The light and heavy cases will be used just for dumby rounds.

Personally, I wouldn't cull any til I'd fireformed and trimmed them all to the same length.  Then weigh and segregate.  I have found weighing cases to help in the case of very small cases (.223), not so much with cases of larger capacity.

I would shoot them to see how they group.  Any case that has a shot out of the group could be segregated and if it does it a second or third time squash it.

I uniform primer pockets, de-burr flash holes, trim after firing, anneal, turn some case necks (including straight) and weigh/segregate. I don't know that any step makes a difference but believe that doing it all makes a difference, and eliminates any question about the brass.

AZ - I think that's good enough.  I got anal and weighed all my .45-100 brass to 0.1 gr lots and then cut index notches on the rim to identify each weight class.  I don't know that it mattered to the targets, but I slept better.
