I have some match 32-40 cases that take a small primer. Anyone have any thoughts on the best primer for H4227?

Marsh;
One of the popular small rifle primers is the Federal 205M (match primer). I might also suggest that you try Remington's 6½. Small pistol primers are used by some, also. You will know within a 100 primers if any of these are going to work for you.

Range time will give you the best "final" answer.

Marsh,
  I'll agree with Dale. It's best to try them all as I've found that different lots of primers give different results and only trying each lot out will you find which works best.

  As an example my latest lot of Win. small rifle primers is slightly better than the Federal match ones, and the Rem. 6 1/2's I have aren't worth the trouble to throw them away.

  Over the years tho I've found the Win. primers to be more consistent from lot to lot than other makes. The only exception to this would be the Rem. 2 1/2's, which is outside the scope of what you're looking for.

Another primer to try is the Rem 5 1/2.  It has worked for me better than the match primers by Rem, CCI, and Fed.  It is the Rem Small pistol mag primer.  This was in the 30-30 x 1.5 inch

Marsh,

It's like searching for the first wife. You really need to try out a lot before you make up your mind. Plus, it's a lot of fun!!!!!

Stay in touch. Come on down next week for a mid-range match..........................Jim

Jim, how about searching for the 3rd wife. Talk about fun.
I can't come to Atlanta next weekend, but why don't you come up here in July or September and we'll go to Dale's, then on to Etna Green.
PS: I think I'm giving up silhouette.
