I have one of the DAT decappers that I use any time I have a group of cases to deprime.  It is quick and easy to use, especially if you have one of the older Lee tools without the primer tray.

I do not use it for schuetzen work at the bench.  I use one of Jake Simmons tools for the multistep operations required for that type work - deprime, clean, prime.

I picked up one of the Simmons redecappers from Charlie Dell at Asheville.  He trys to keep a couple on hand for people like me needing to upgrade my "toy box".  He had at least one more and said he trys to keep different heads and rods around to meet most anyone's needs.  The 2 he had at Asheville were set up for 32-40 and would work fine for any similar case for recapping.  Decapping side will handle about anything down to a hair above .30 cal.

Dave Arwinko--(hope I spelled that right--just from my faulty memory)  had some really slick ones for sale at EG. they appeared to be a cast and polished bronze body.  I think I saw the Frog talking with him so I expect there'll be a review in an upcoming Journal. 
In addition the not-really-late Barry Darr was there (kind of the ASSRA's Rip Van Winkle) after a 20 or so year absence.  He had serial #1 of a design he modified from either a Schoyen or Zischang re/de design. He had made them out in CA during his years out there.  Now that he has resettled in sw PA he may--repete MAY--put them back into production along with moulds--no barrel making though--or so he says.  We'll be hearing more from Barry as time goes on.

The Arawinko Re&Des are a copy of the Peterson. The Darr was a copy of the very rare Bremmer tool. I am personaly lusting after the Bremmer tool.

John, Did you talk to Barry about his tool.  the one he had -the prototype I guess was made out of a machined down gun barrel.  It and the Arawinko are certainly very sleek classy looking rigs.  I liked the bronze (maybe brass) chassis on the Arawinko/peterson rig.  besides it's available and Darr's isn't ---yet at least.

One nice thing about this game--we've got so many cool little toys and gimmicks; above and beyond the guns themselves

That's for sure! No other type of shooting involves so many neat tools in use at the bench! Even if one doesn't shoot in competition, it's nice to be able to use these tools for casual shooting, and load workup.

Hell Marlinguy -----   All I do is work with these rifles, don't have the time to shoot them !   I do manage to keep a few in the works (about12-14) & manage to buy some of these toys just to play with ----  guess I'll wind up with one each of these to go with a rifle that probably won't get ahot.   Ken

Hey Ken,
Some of us collect, some shoot, some shoot what they collect, and some have to keep the rest of us equipped with beautiful iron to shoot!
What we all have in common is a love of these fine guns, whether they're old originals, or newer!

Sorry to hear that he died. I guess then it's Simons. I just got off of the phone with Gail at CPA and she said Paul has been working on a new design for one but it will not be out for over a year or more. Do you have a phone number for Simons?

     AFAIK, Charlie never made re and decappers...I know that for the 10+ years I went to his place he always used and stocked for resale the Jake (Jerry) Simmons units.  I don't have his address handy, but if it doesn't show up in the next day or so on this board I'll try to dig it out.  There are a couple of others that have come on the market including the excellent Arawinko one that I reported on in SSR Journal about a year ago, but the Simmons unit is the most well known and widely used, I believe.

     Charlie DID, however design and build an improved version of the lube pump made famous by the likes of Harry Pope, and there was an inquiry about that just the other day in another thread on this board.  Both the pump and the re- and de- appeared in Charlie's book, so I guess some folks are getting into their Winter reading to prepare for the Spring matches, huh?  If anybody reading this missed the other thread, it was noted there that Willis (singleshot) Gregory has had the torch passed to him by Charlie to continue the making of the lube pumps.

Thanks guy's. I just got my new Jerry Simmons unit in the mail and it is nice. Now I gotta figure out do I color case it or rust blue it.
Jerry has a very quick turn around for a 75 year old fellow. He got my money order and I got the unit about a week later.
